Segment (Twilio)
Send your customer and order events to Segment once, then forward them to 300+ analytics, ads, and marketing tools without extra setup.
About this plugin
Segment is a customer data platform that acts as a single hub for all your store's tracking data. Instead of adding a separate tracking code for every analytics, ads, and marketing tool you use, Orderain sends your events to Segment once and Segment forwards a copy to every tool you have connected.
When a customer signs up or places an order, Orderain sends that event to Segment with the customer details and order value. From your Segment dashboard you can then route that data to Google Analytics, Meta Ads, Mixpanel, a data warehouse, and hundreds of other destinations, all without adding more code to your store.
Key Features:
- Send customer and order events to Segment automatically from Orderain
- Forward the same clean data to 300+ tools from one dashboard
- Identify customers and track orders, product views, and cart activity
- Keep analytics consistent across every connected tool
- Pipe your data into a warehouse for your own reporting
Installation guide
Step 1: Go to segment.com/signup to create your account. No credit card is required for the free plan. (Note: segment.com now redirects to Twilio's Segment page since Twilio owns Segment, so use the /signup link directly.)
Step 2: After signing up, your workspace opens at app.segment.com. This is your Segment dashboard.
Step 3: In the left sidebar, click Connections → Sources, then click the blue Add source button. This opens the Catalog page. In the Search an integration box at the top, type HTTP API, then click the HTTP API result. (Do not pick Javascript or Shopify. HTTP API is the server-to-server source Orderain uses.)
Step 4: On the HTTP API page, click Add Source (top right). The Source setup screen opens. The Name field is already filled in with "HTTP API", which is fine to keep (or rename it to Orderain if you prefer). Leave the Labels field empty, you do not need dev or prod labels. Then click Add Source.
Step 5: Segment opens your source Overview page. Under the Write Key heading you will see your key with a Copy button next to it. Click Copy. This is the only value you need. (If you ever need it again later, reopen this source from Connections → Sources and look on its Overview page, or its own Settings tab → API Keys. Note: the Write Key is not in the main Workspace Settings, it belongs to the source.)
Step 6: In your Orderain Dashboard, go to Shop, then select Plugins from the left sidebar and click on Segment.
Step 7: Paste your Segment Write Key into the Write Key field and click Save.
Step 8: In Segment, connect the tools you want to receive your data. Go to Connections → Destinations → Add Destination, then pick any tool (for example: Google Analytics 4) and follow its setup. You can add as many destinations as you like.
Step 9: Your Segment integration is active. Orderain will send customer and order events to Segment automatically, and Segment forwards them to every destination you connected.
