WhatsApp Notifications (Twilio)

Keep customers updated where they actually read their messages. This plugin sends WhatsApp order updates through Twilio, so when a customer places an order, when it ships, and when it arrives, they get a WhatsApp message automatically. For cash-on-delivery orders, it also asks the customer to confirm by reply before you dispatch, so you stop paying to ship parcels that get refused at the door.

It runs on Twilio, an official WhatsApp Business partner. Twilio holds the WhatsApp connection, so you do not need your own approved Meta developer app to get started. You can build and test everything today on Twilio's free WhatsApp Sandbox, then attach a live WhatsApp sender when you are ready to go live.

Step 1: Go to twilio.com and create a free account. If you already have one, sign in instead.

Step 2: Open the Twilio Console. Your Account SID and Auth Token are on the main dashboard. Keep the Auth Token private, it can send messages on your account.

Step 3: In the Console sidebar, go to Messaging, then Senders, then WhatsApp senders.

Step 4: Click to register a new sender and enter the phone number you want messages to come from.

Step 5: Follow Twilio's prompts to connect a Meta WhatsApp Business account. Twilio walks you through this and submits your sender for review, which usually takes a short while.

Step 6: While you wait, go to Messaging, then Content Template Builder.

Step 7: Create a template for each update you plan to send. WhatsApp requires an approved template for any message your store sends first.

Step 8: In your Orderain Dashboard, go to Plugins and click WhatsApp Notifications (Twilio).

Step 9: Paste your Account SID and Auth Token into their fields.

Step 10: In the WhatsApp Sender field, enter your approved sender number in +country format, and set Environment to Live.

Step 11: Turn on the updates you want: Order confirmation, Shipped, Delivered, and COD confirmation.

Step 12: Click Install, then place a test order and confirm the WhatsApp message arrives. Orderain now messages your customers as their orders move.

Want to test before your sender is approved? Twilio's free WhatsApp Sandbox lets you try the whole flow first. Go to Messaging, then Try it out, then Send a WhatsApp message, and send the join code shown there from any phone you want to test with. Then set the plugin's WhatsApp Sender to the Sandbox number, leave Environment on Sandbox, and place a test order. The Sandbox only reaches phones that sent the join code, and it uses Twilio's shared test wording, so it proves your setup works but not that your live sender is approved.
